New details of Microsoft's forthcoming Internet Explorer 8 were revealed at this months Tech-Ed conference in Orlanda and on its IEBlog.

The latest Beta version, aimed at web developers and designers, was released in March this year at Microsoft's Mix08 conference.

A second public Beta version should be available from August this year, though a final date for a full release has not been published.

Greater Standards Support

The Beta 1 version is a developer preview for web designers and developers to help prepare their websites for the launch of IE8.  One of the new features is a 'super standards mode' which aims to address criticisms of lax support of Web standards in previous versions of IE.

New Features

Other new features include WebSlices, which allows developers to mark parts of a web page as a 'WebSlice', WebSlices behave just like feeds in that users can subscribe to them and receive update notifications when the content changes.  Another feature is Activities, which are contextual services that provide quick access to external services from any webpage.
