Google has announced the addition of ten new languages to its Google Translate feature, bringing the total of available tongues to 23.
The new languages are Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Finnish, Hindi, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian and Swedish.
Google's translation software uses statistical machine translation rather than using a rule-based approach.
“We feed the computer billions of words of text, both monolingual text in the target language, and aligned text consisting of examples of human translations between the languages. We then apply statistical learning techniques to build a translation model.”
On the Google Translate website you can either enter a selection of text to translate or enter a URL to translate a whole web page.
